The Pulitzer Prize winner "The Nickel Boys" by Colson Whitehead was last year's pick for the campaign. The Read Together campaign targets adults and encourages the reading of a single book. "Taking care of patients taught me a lot about human nature, about hope and fear and love and loss and regret and triumph, and especially about relationships – all things that I tend to focus on in my work," Berg says on her website. Berg's other works include "Open House," "Talk Before Sleep," "The Year of Pleasures," "Durable Goods" and "Joy School."īefore becoming a writer, Berg was a waitress, a singer in a rock band and a registered nurse for 10 years. The campaign ends on April 1 at the 31st annual Love of Literacy Luncheon, where Berg, a New York Times best-selling author, will be the featured speaker.
